Join us and be part of a worldwide public art project focused on compassion.
We benefit from practicing compassion when the world is in upheaval, and we’re surrounded by uncertainty. Compassion is defined as taking action to alleviate suffering — your own or someone else’s. Those actions allow us to help calm the world in our own small way.
We’re building a global portrait gallery of people from around the world sharing how they express compassion, a beautiful mosaic of faces and stories. We’re looking for those who will share part of themselves and connect with people from different walks of life. We’re gathering as many perspectives as possible, and our ultimate goal is to represent every country in the world.
There are 3 Orientations of Compassion
Self-compassion
What has seen you through tough times? What motivates you, gives you strength, joy, comfort, or makes you laugh? It might be a song or a walk in the park. How do you comfort yourself?
Showing compassion to others
How do you move beyond empathy and alleviate another person’s suffering? Do you cook them a meal, give them a book they’ll love, or simply listen and provide support?
Receiving compassion from others
How has someone shown up for you, given you a helping hand, listened without judging, or provided friendship in a time of need?
Take a moment. Reflect. Find common ground with people from other cultures by creating a post about one of the 3 forms of compassion. You are sure to inspire others, and you may be inspired by someone halfway around the world or right down the street.
This worldwide public art project is part of the Stanford School of Medicine’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE).
